The Colombia consumer electronics market is one of the most active in South America, and it is being reshaped by two things at once. Xiaomi has overtaken Samsung as the top smartphone brand. Meanwhile, technology has become the largest e-commerce category in the country. For wholesale buyers and resellers, that changes the assortment. This guide covers the size of the market and which brands and categories are moving. It also covers the import rules that set your landed cost. Finally, it shows how to build a stocking plan for Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and the coast.
Colombia is a value market with a brand-conscious buyer. Get that balance right and the rest follows.
How big is the Colombia consumer electronics market in 2026?
Large, connected and increasingly digital. Colombia had 94.6 million active mobile lines, 49.6 million mobile internet accesses and 10 million 5G accesses by mid-2026. [Source: TelecomLead citing Omdia 2026] That is nearly two lines per person, which tells you how deep the replacement and accessories market runs.
The online side is even clearer. Colombian e-commerce reached 145.4 trillion pesos in sales in 2025, up 11.1% from 130.9 trillion in 2024. Transactions grew 19.9% to 684.6 million. Technology was the largest category by value at 17.3% of all online sales. [Source: Forbes Colombia citing CCCE 2026] In other words, electronics are the number one thing Colombians buy online.
ATC serves Colombia from Miami and through our Colombia office. What follows combines published market data with the reorder patterns we see from resellers in the country.
Which smartphone brands lead in Colombia right now?
Xiaomi, and by a clear margin. In the second quarter of 2026, Xiaomi held 27% of Colombian smartphone shipments. Samsung followed at 22%, Motorola at 15%, OPPO at 11% and Transsion brands (Tecno, Infinix, itel) at 10%. The top five together took 85% of the market. [Source: TelecomLead citing Omdia 2026]
| Brand (Colombia, 2Q26) | Share | What it means for a reseller |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi | 27% | Redmi Note line is the volume driver; accessories must fit Xiaomi first |
| Samsung | 22% | Galaxy A series for volume, S series for the premium shelf |
| Motorola | 15% | Strong in carrier channels; steady mid-range demand |
| OPPO | 11% | Growing fast in open-market retail |
| Transsion (Tecno, Infinix, itel) | 10% | Entry price band, high accessory attach |
The regional backdrop matters too. Latin American smartphone shipments fell 12% to 30.3 million units in the second quarter of 2026. Higher memory costs pushed prices up. [Source: TelecomLead citing Omdia 2026] So Colombian buyers are trading down, not out. That is exactly why Xiaomi and Transsion gained share. A reseller who stocks only Samsung flagships is fishing in a shrinking pond.
Price points confirm it. A Redmi Note 15 retails between 699,900 and 849,900 pesos. A Samsung Galaxy S26 runs from 5.08 million to 7 million pesos. The volume is at the bottom of that range.
Which electronics categories are growing in Colombia?
Mid-range Android phones, phone accessories, audio, storage and laptops for students and small business. Technology’s 17.3% share of online sales is the headline, but the sub-categories tell the story. [Source: Forbes Colombia citing CCCE 2026]
| Category | Why it moves in Colombia | Brands available through ATC |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-range smartphones | Xiaomi and Samsung A series dominate; carrier and open market both active | Samsung, Xiaomi |
| Phone accessories (chargers, cables, cases, power banks) | Two lines per person; USB-C across the Android base | Belkin, Samsung |
| Audio (earbuds, speakers, headphones) | Top-reviewed online category; strong brand pull | JBL, Samsung, Xiaomi |
| Storage and memory | Expandable Android phones; buy ahead of memory price increases | Kingston, SanDisk |
| Laptops and monitors | Students, remote work, small business | HP, Acer, Samsung |
| Gaming peripherals | Young online buyer base; marketplace friendly | Razer, JBL Quantum |
| Printers and supplies | SMB and education demand; recurring consumables | HP, Epson, Canon |
Accessories deserve a special note. Latin America’s mobile accessories market is worth about 10.5 billion dollars and growing 6.1% a year. Online is its fastest-growing channel. [Source: Grand View Research 2026] In a value market like Colombia, the accessory margin is what makes the phone sale worth it. Our guide to wholesale mobile accessories covers the mix.
What import rules set the cost of electronics in Colombia?
Three numbers and one document. Import VAT (IVA) is 19%, calculated on CIF value plus duty. General tariffs on consumer goods run 5% to 15% by HS code. However, the US-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement changes that. In force since 2012, it lets most U.S.-origin goods enter at 0% duty with a valid certificate of origin. A licensed customs broker is mandatory for imports over 1,000 dollars FOB. [Source: Stanford Baker 2026]
Importers also need a RUT with foreign-trade activity codes and registration in VUCE, the single window for foreign trade. The 2026 changes are procedural. VUCE and MUISCA integration has cut approval times. Electronic validation became mandatory in April 2026. [Source: Stanford Baker 2026]
The practical effect for a reseller: product that ships from a U.S. authorized distributor with TPA-eligible paperwork can land duty-free. The same product routed from Asia pays the full tariff plus 19% IVA on top. On a 40-dollar earbud or a 200-dollar phone, that gap decides whether your listing competes. What should a wholesale buyer stock for the Colombia consumer electronics market this year?
Build around Xiaomi and Samsung mid-range phones. Stack accessories and audio on top. Keep laptops and printers for the SMB channel. Technology is already the largest online category at 17.3% of e-commerce value. So marketplace-ready SKUs matter as much as store stock. [Source: Forbes Colombia citing CCCE 2026] A balanced first order for a Colombian reseller or regional distributor:
- Phones: Xiaomi Redmi Note and Samsung Galaxy A series in the 700,000 to 1.5 million peso retail band. Add one Samsung S series SKU for the premium shelf only if your customer base supports it.
- Accessories: USB-C chargers and cables first, then cases by model against your top ten phones, then power banks. See our post on wholesale mobile accessories.
- Audio: JBL entry and mid TWS earbuds, one portable speaker. Our guide to wholesale audio products covers the mix.
- Storage: microSD cards for expandable Android phones and USB-C drives. Buy before memory price increases hit retail. See SSDs and memory.
- SMB channel: HP and Acer laptops, Epson EcoTank printers with supplies, and Microsoft software licenses delivered by ESD. See wholesale software licenses.
Two planning notes. First, Colombia’s peak runs from Black Friday in late November through the December prima bonus season. So stock should land by early November. Our Q4 inventory planning guide covers timing. Second, minimums are set by inner carton, not pallet. See MOQs in wholesale electronics.

Frequently asked questions
Why did Xiaomi overtake Samsung in Colombia?
Price, and the memory cost squeeze. Latin American smartphone shipments fell 12% in the second quarter of 2026 as higher RAM and storage costs raised prices. Colombian buyers responded by trading down to brands that deliver mid-range specs at entry prices. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note line sits exactly there, at 700,000 to 850,000 pesos. Samsung still leads the premium segment and holds 22% overall. For a reseller, the answer is to stock both. Xiaomi covers volume. Samsung A series covers the customer who wants the brand at a mid-range price.
Is it cheaper to import electronics into Colombia from the United States or from Asia?
Usually from the United States, once duty is included. U.S.-origin goods with a valid certificate of origin enter Colombia at 0% duty under the US-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement. Goods from Asia pay the general tariff, typically 5% to 15% on consumer electronics. Both pay 19% IVA. However, IVA is calculated on CIF plus duty. So the Asian route pays IVA on a bigger base as well. Add faster transit from Miami and the ability to order mixed pallets, and the landed cost usually favors a U.S. authorized distributor. Run the numbers per SKU with your broker.
What registrations does a Colombian business need to import electronics?
A RUT with foreign-trade activity codes and customs responsibility (Responsabilidad 22), plus registration in VUCE, the single window for foreign trade. Imports over 1,000 dollars FOB require a licensed customs broker. Since April 2026, electronic validation of import documents is mandatory. Your distributor supplies the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin; your broker handles the declaration. Requirements change, so confirm the current list with your broker before the first shipment.
Which accessories sell best alongside Xiaomi and Samsung phones in Colombia?
USB-C chargers and cables first, because every Xiaomi, Samsung, Motorola, OPPO and Transsion phone in the country uses USB-C. Then cases and tempered glass by model for your top ten sellers. Then power banks and true wireless earbuds. Colombia has nearly two mobile lines per person, so the replacement cycle for cables and chargers is constant. Buy branded accessories from Belkin and Samsung through an authorized channel. Counterfeit chargers are a safety and warranty liability, and it lands on the reseller.
